We live in the future

The thing is that technology can be used for good - it's about time we started putting more effort into not causing problems in the first place, and secondly, clearing up the problems we have created...

Have a look at these projects; they are fascinating.

GM crops are a good example. There was an item on BBC Radio 4 this morning saying that it might be a good thing for the developing world and it's a conceit of the wealthy west to deny it from them. But there are just too many examples of crop technology that has gone horribly wrong to be complacent about this. DDT was a truly wonderful advance, a miracle of modern science... but then years later all the birds started dying. "High protein cattle feed" was also a terrific idea -- faster growth, better productivity, lower costs. But then they found out that grinding up dead cattle and feeding it to other cattle wasn't such a good idea after all. Just because we CAN do something, doesn't necessarily mean we SHOULD do it.
